College Counseling

At JMAC, we work closely with motivated students to highlight their strengths, find colleges that fit their goals, and turn their story into an application that truly stands out.

Our college counseling keeps students front and center, knowing that a thoughtful, honest approach leads to the best results.

JMAC College Counseling

JMAC Provides:

  • Student support in mapping classes, building a resume, creating a standardized test preparation schedule, and identifying extracurricular or summer opportunities that align with their interests.

  • Student support in identifying, researching, and building a balanced list of reach, match, and likely schools that fit their academic, social, geographical, cultural, and financial needs.

  • Student support in managing timelines, deadlines, and strategizing early decision and early action applications. Help in organizing the application process efficiently and effectively.

  • Student support in brainstorming, drafting, and refining personal statements and supplemental essays that work together to tell each student’s story.

The best college searches are those that help applicants discover themselves on their way to becoming adults.

JMAC College Counseling Packages

JMAC uses package pricing instead of hourly rates because it works more effectively. There is a limited number of students in each cohort, and JMAC is fully committed to each student, following them attentively throughout the process. Year after year, JMAC sees the positive impact of consistent meetings and open communication, which is often hindered by hourly contracting. Package pricing ensures the student and family will take full advantage of the services and commit to the process as much as JMAC.

  • Comprehensive College Counseling

Typically begins before or in the first few months of junior year. This is the most comprehensive package and is excellent for parents and students seeking support in all aspects of the college preparation, selection, and application process.

  • Foundations College Counseling

This is a great option for second-semester juniors and rising seniors who have identified college parameters/ characteristics, have a college list that appropriately matches the student’s academic profile, and a plan to visit or have already visited colleges.

  • SLAES Senior Rush

SLAES (Strategic List, Application, Essay, Support) focuses on application support for the rising senior coming in hot for application help who has a college list and needs to prioritize the college application and essay.

Add-ons

The following can be added to the packages detailed above.

  • Sophomore Start (8 sessions)

JMAC Testimonials

  • "A and B both got acceptances to Bates. Take a look at this letter from Bates admissions to A; “We enjoyed getting to know you through your application. Your essay in particular was one of the most memorable of the thousands of essays we read this year. Your writing was creative, insightful, reflective, and such a joy to read! Thank you.” You were critical to getting her voice heard by the right places. Thank you. This kind of validation is the best there is – even more so than the getting in part."

  • "Jesse was instrumental in assisting my daughter with her admission to Stanford University. She worked with A. to create a path through the deadlines, her current high school workload and testing dates to ensure every task was completed with intention and thoroughness. Through dialogue, creative suggestions, and iterations, she helped A. craft a beautiful college essay. Jesse’s Ivy League education, coupled with her teaching experience, puts her in a unique place to help students with their planning, writing, testing, and admission process. Jesse is smart, passionate, and caring. Any student that has the opportunity to work with Jesse is lucky!"

    M. Parent from Chicago, IL

  • "My daughter had created numerous drafts of her college essay, but she was not completely happy with any of them. That changed when she started working with Jesse. The constructive and detailed feedback that Jesse gave enabled my daughter to create an essay she was really proud of. I believe it helped her standout in a competitive pool of applicants."
